Lilwin arrested over fatal accident

Renowned actor and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lilwin, has been arrested by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Manhyia Divisional Police Command. The arrest follows a tragic accident involving the actor that resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.

Lilwin, who had recently postponed the premiere of his movie “A Country Called Ghana” in Sunyani due to the incident, is facing widespread public condemnation. Many have questioned why the actor was not immediately taken into police custody for questioning after the accident.

The delay in his arrest has sparked outrage, with the organization Accident Victim Support Ghana (AVSG) leading calls for justice. AVSG, which advocates for the rights of accident victims, expressed concern over Lilwin’s freedom and the potential risk to his health following the accident.

“He should not have been allowed to be walking around because he was hurt, so his health matters. What if he came out and died? Mind you, he is the culprit, and we are going to get him to narrate the incident. We are going to use him to investigate the accident, and here is the case: he was out there the night the case happened. The next day, he went to church, which means that this guy is fit; he should have been taken to the police so that he would be questioned,” a representative from AVSG stated.

The public’s reaction has been further fuelled by an official statement from Lilwin in which he thanked God for his life. Critics have pointed out that the statement seemed to lack sympathy for the young boy who lost his life, exacerbating the backlash against the actor.

The police have explained that the delay in arresting the actor was due to his health condition after the accident.
