Agenda 111 to create over 20,000 direct jobs

-Another 25,000 jobs in the design and construction phase

The 111 hospitals under Government’s priority health infrastructure projects dubbed Agenda 111 will create some 20,000 permanent jobs thus reducing the unemployment rate in the country.

It will comprise health professionals including doctors, specialists, nurses and other allied health workers.  

It is estimated that 25,000 people will be employed during the design and construction phase of the 111 hospital providing direct jobs to architects, masons, carpenters and other construction workers in the country.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Presidential Advisor on Health announced these figures at an Impact forum on the benefits of Agenda 111 projects held in Kpassa in the Oti Region.

The event organized by the Office of the President in partnership with the Ministry of Information is the second in a series of many others aimed at updating Ghanaians on the progress of work on the government’s biggest health Agenda projects.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare highlighted the significant socioeconomic and employment opportunities that the initiative offers.

“Agenda 111 is not just about constructing hospitals; it’s about creating opportunities and jobs for the people of Ghana. Through this project, we expect to employ approximately 20,000 health workers across various roles, from doctors and nurses to support staff.

“Additionally, the construction and operation of these hospitals will create thousands of indirect jobs, driving economic growth in the areas where these facilities are situated and, “explained Dr. Nsiah-Asare.

He emphasized that the project’s impact would extend beyond healthcare, benefiting communities through job creation and economic development.

On his part, Minister of Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the meticulous planning and management of the project, which has been divided into eight zones, each comprising an average of 14 sites, each with dedicated teams of consultants, including architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and biomedical engineers.

He stressed the importance of community engagement and collaboration to ensure the seamless integration and optimal functionality of the health facilities upon completion.

The huge investment into the healthcare sector is to address the uneven distribution of healthcare infrastructure and also make Ghana the centre of excellence in healthcare delivery in the sub region.

The project involves the construction of 100-bed 101 District Hospitals, 160-bed six Regional Hospitals in newly created regions, one Regional Hospital in the Western Region, 90 bed Psychiatric Hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale, Rehabilitation of Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi and the Redevelopment of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

Regional breakdown

The Regional breakdown of district hospitals are; Ashanti-10, Volta-9, Eastern-8, Greater Accra-7, Upper East-7, Oti-5, Upper West-5, Bono-5, Western North-5, Savanna-3, Bono East-2 and North East- 2.

All hospitals shall have a compliment of staff accommodation.

Dr Nsiah-Asare  is leading government officials monitoring government’s ‘Agenda 111’ hospital projects across the country on a regional tour to inspect all the project sites in Volta and the Oti regions. 

The tour took the experts, engineers, and other technocrats monitoring the project, to the eight sites in Volta and four at Jasikan, Kadjebi, Nkwanta North and Krachi Nchumuru in Oti, to inspect the progress of work.  

They had already visited about five Zones including Greater Accra, Eastern, Central, Ashanti, Western North, Bono East, Ahafo and parts of Oti.

Completion rate of each project

The completion rate of the projects which has been divided into eight zones are Zone 1- 33-12%, Zone 2- 58.02%, Zone 3-45.13%, Zone 4-29.62%, Zone 5-37.70%, Zone 6-38.67%, Zone 7-25.85% and Zone 8-35.36%.

This brings the overall progress to 37.93%.

Zone 1

Zone 1 projects includes Kukuom in the Asunafo South District-32.4%, Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District-28.5% both in Ahafo Region, Nyinahin in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region-39.3%, Jinijini in the Berekum West District- 28%, Amasu/Dormaa in the Dormaa Central District-40.2%, Odomasi in the Sunyani West District-35.3%   all in the Bono Region, Tuobodom in the Techniman North District of the Bono East Region-40.1%, Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West Distrcit in the Central Region Region-18.7%, Adabokrom in the Bia East District-24.8%, Bodi in the Bodi District-45.6% and Dadieso in the Suaman District-31.5% all in the Western Region.

Zone 2

In respect of Zone 2, the completion rates the Central Region includes Nsaba in Agona East District- 54.08%, Assin Bereku in the Assin North District-53.48%, Nsuaen-Kyekyewere in Assin South District-61.66%, Awutu Bereku in Awutu Senya Bereku District-55.5%, Afransi in Comoa Central District-67.67% and Hemang in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District-60.487%.

Eastern Region projects under Zone 2 are  Ofoase in the Akyeamansa District-58.1%, Manso in the Asene Manso Akroso District-53.8% and Akim Swedru in the Birim South District-57.7%

Zone 2 projects in the Western Region are Agona Ahanta in the Ahanta West Municipality-60.5% and Mpohor in the Mpohor District-55.35%.

Zone 3

For Zone 3 the completion rates in Eastern Region are Atimpoku in Asuogyaman District-43.93%, Abomosu/Kwabeng in Atiwa District–65.30% and Kwaku Tease in Kwaku Afram Plains South District-26.16%.

Zone 4

The completion rates at Zone 4 in the Greater Accra Region are Sege in Ada West District-43.85%, Sowutuom in Ga Central Municipality- 36.13% and Prampram in the Ningo Prampram District-54.68%.

Others are Kadjebi in the Kadjebi District 36.88%, Chinderi in the Krachi Nchurmuru District-15.16% and Kpassa in the Nkwanta North District-30.54%.

Construction is yet to start on one project in Oti (Jasikan) and the same situation exists in Ashaiman, Dzrowulu, Ngleshie Amanfro, Wadie and Baatsonaa all in the greater Accra Region.

Zone 5

Progress of work on Zone 5 projects are Nanton in the Nanton District 50%, Wulensi in the Nanumba South District-25%, Saboba in the Saboba District-45%, Sagnarigu in  Sagnarigu Municipality-23.46%, Savelugu in the Savelugu municipality-50% all in the Northern Region, Kpalbe in the North East Gonja District-35%and Daboya in the  North Gonja District-47.75% in the Savannah Region.

The rest are Issa in the Daffiama Bussie Issa District-35.3%,  Lambussie in the Lambussie/Karni District-50%, Gwollu in the Sissala West District-30%, Funsi in the Wa West District- 38.26% and Weinchiau in the Wa West District-55% all in the Upper West Region

Zone 6

The completion rates for Zone 6 projects are Bunkpurugu in the Bunkpurugu Nankpaduri District-45.2%, Chereponi in the Chereponi District-35.5%, Yagaba in the Mamprugu Moagduri District-35%, Yunnyoo in the Yunyoo-Nasuan District-36%, Kpandai in the Kpandai District-45%, Kumbungu in the Kumbungu District-34.13% and Sang in the Mion District-51.5%, all in the North East Region.

The rest are Bunduri in the Binduri District-50%, Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District-50.38%, Fumbisi in the Builsa South District-16.3%Garu in the Garu District-58%, Paga in the Kassena Nankana West District-51.5%, Nangodi in the Nabdam District-9%, Pusiga in the Pusiga District-50% and Tempane in the Tempane District-40% all in the Upper East Region.

Zone 7

In relation to Zone 7, Busunya in the Nkoranza North District-11.51%, Prang in the Pru West District-16.55%, Kwame Danso/Kajaji in the Sene West District- 23.97% all in the Bono East Region, Tamale in the Northern Region-19.97%, Adaklu Waya in Adaklu District-31.68%, Ve-Golokwati in Afadzato South District-27.9%, Kpetoe in Agotime Ziope District-8.95%, Ave Dakpa in Akatsi North District-51.47%, Akatsi in the Akatsi South  District-8.55%, Anloga in the Anloga District-36.12%, Dzolokuita in the Ho West District-16.27% and Kpeve in the South Dayi District all in the Volta Region.

Zone 8

Zone 8 projects in the Ashanti Region includes Adansi Asokwa in Adansi Asokwa District- 37.06%, Boamang in the Afigya Kwabre North District-55.71%, Kodie in the Afigya Kwabre South District-45.1%, Adugyama in the Ahafo Ano South District-31.37%, Mankraso in Ahafo Ano West District-22.46% andAkrofuom in the Akrofuom District-2.5%.

The others are Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District-26.69%, Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District-60.92%, Trede in the  Atwima Kwanwoma District-66%, Asiwa in the Bosome Freho District-38.19%m, Kokoben in Oforikrom-61.74% and Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District-19% complete.

Out of the 16 projects under Zone 8 all in the Ashanti Region, construction is yet to start at four sites namely Asakore mapong, Kumasi, Bnatama Sub-Metro Ampabame and Kwabenakwa in Obuais District.
