Ghana handed injury blow as Ernest Nuamah picks knock in Lyon game

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah is likely to miss the first two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to an injury sustained in the Ligue 1 game between Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco.

Nuamah was forced off after suffering the injury just 18 minutes into the match and had to be replaced by Georges Mikautadze.

Lyon went on to lose the match 2-0, which compounded their struggles as they remained at the bottom of the league table with no points.

The injury comes at a critical time for the Black Stars as they prepare for two important qualifiers in early September.

Ghana is scheduled to play Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on September 5, followed by a match against Niger on September 9 in Berkane, Morocco.

The absence of Nuamah, one of Ghana’s most promising wingers, could be a significant blow to the team’s chances of securing a strong start in the qualifiers. Head coach Otto Addo, who has already submitted his squad list to the Executive Council of Ghana’s football governing body, will need to reassess his plans in light of Nuamah’s injury.
