English Championship side Sunderland are closing in on a deal to sign RC
Lens midfielder Salis Abdul Samed on a season-long loan, according to
reports from French outlet Lequipe.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian midfielder was part of a group of players sent
to train with the reserves as they looked for moves away from the club.
Abdul Samed has attracted interest from several French clubs, including
FC Nantes, Stade Brestois and AS Saint-Etienne, but Sunderland are now
leading the race to sign him.
Negotiations between Sunderland and Lens are progressing positively,
with a full agreement yet to be reached.
Abdul Samed has not played a single minute for Lens in the current Ligue
1 campaign, having fallen out of favor with the club.
The midfielder had a breakthrough season with Lens two seasons ago,
earning recognition as a nominee for best Ligue 1 midfielder and the
Marc Vivien Foe award. He played a crucial role in helping Lens secure a
second-place finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League.
However, the following season proved challenging, and Abdul Samed now
looks to revive his career with a loan move to Sunderland.
