Kwanyako Water Plant back to full production – GWL Boss

The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Adam Mutawakilu, has announced that the Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant is now operating at full capacity after months of technical challenges.
The plant had faced persistent issues with high turbidity levels, which measure water cloudiness, exceeding 11,000 NTU, far above the facility’s processing limit of 2,500 NTU. This affected water production and supply to surrounding communities.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, October 20, Mr Mutawakilu explained that the improvement followed engineering works that involved relocating the pumps from the ground to the surface treatment plant.
He, however, cautioned that the current production level might not be sustained as the dry season approaches, which could lead to reduced water levels.
“We had to do re-engineering by bringing the pumps up. That is why we are now able to produce 100 per cent water. The Kwanyako Treatment Plant is now working, with no high turbidity beyond the capacity of the plant.
“As we speak, the Kwanyako Treatment Plant is producing 100 per cent water. But that will not last long because the water level will drop as the dry season comes in,” Mr Mutawakilu said.
The GWL Managing Director also appealed to corporate organisations to assist in desilting the pump intakes, noting that the company faces financial constraints in carrying out the exercise.
