Poll predicts strong lead for Dr Bawumia

joint research report published by the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) in the UK and Outcomes International in Ghana has indicated that Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is maintaining a commanding lead in the race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

The research report reveals that Dr. Bawumia is set to win the flagbearership contest with an impressive 80.8% of the votes of delegates. The report summary said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the highest level of support among the delegates, with about 80.8%.

He is followed by Kennedy Agyapong (10.4%), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (1.1%), and Francis Addai-Nimoh (0.4%).

The report shows that 7.3% of the delegates are still undecided.

The research findings also shed light on the primary reasons delegates favor Dr. Bawumia.

Delegates cited his vision for the party, his competence to execute his vision and responsibilities, and his capability to secure victory for the NPP in the 2024 General Elections.

The report highlights the key criteria used by delegates in assessing the candidates, which include the candidate’s vision for the party and the nation, as well as their overall competence.

Delegates expressed their belief that the party has a strong chance of retaining power in the 2024 General Elections if the government’s performance improves and the party remains united after the primaries.

While Dr. Bawumia’s victory in the super delegates election was predicted earlier, the research suggests that his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, has made some gains but still lags behind with 10.4% support.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its National Delegates Conference on November 4, 2023, to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections.

The findings of this research report are expected to shape the party’s decisions and strategies leading up to the conference.
