I never saw music as a linear travel – Rocky Dawuni

By Esther Korantemaa Offei

Ghanaian singer and four-time Grammy nominee, Rocky Dawuni, has opened up about how far music has taken him and how he perceives his journey in the industry.

Speaking during Reggae Cafe on ZED101.9FM, the artiste explained that he never thought of music in terms of time or a linear journey.

“And also I wanted, you know, God, to give me the platforms to bring it onto the highest stages. That’s how I saw it. So every stage was about me working hard to innovate, you know,” the songwriter said.

The record producer maintained that he was always interested in fusing styles.
“I was interested in merging music, growing as an artist, you know. So I never saw it as a linear travel,” he explained.

The songwriter further revealed that he viewed music more in terms of sewing together experiences, peaks, occasions, and moments with every record.

He explained that this journey came with certain experiences, adding that it reached a point where he felt his “wellsprings” were full enough with the kind of inspiration he needed to get ready for recording.

Regarding the ideas and inspiration that came to him, the record producer said they often surprised him.

“You know, when they happen. But I knew that I was just going to push things to the highest that I can, and then the rest is just, yeah, leave out to history and the world to catch up with,” he added.
