Private Investment Boosts Service Infrastructure in Eastern Region

By Joyce Ayine

The Eastern Region has welcomed a major addition to its service infrastructure following the official opening of Eastern Funeral Home Ltd., a development hailed as a significant boost to both local economy and urban organisation.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, praised private sector investors for complementing government efforts in expanding critical infrastructure. He highlighted that the government alone could not meet all national development needs, making private investment essential in bridging infrastructure gaps.

“Facilities such as this funeral home provide structured and dignified environments for families during moments of loss while also contributing to better organised urban spaces,” Mr. Adjei said. “Beyond the physical structure, such developments create employment opportunities, stimulate local economic activity, and enhance the overall development of the community.”

The event attracted government officials, traditional authorities, clergy, and members of the public. Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, led the ribbon-cutting and unveiling of a commemorative plaque. Mrs. Awatey described the facility as a milestone in the region’s growth, noting that it demonstrates the transformative potential of well-planned private investments.

The funeral home, led by CEO Joseph Kwasi Okyere, aims to provide professional, compassionate, and hygienic funeral services. Services offered include embalming, body preservation, dressing, and viewing arrangements, all delivered within a serene environment to honour the departed. Administrator Cleotha Mends-Buah added that the facility was established to support families during difficult times with dignity and efficiency.

The ceremony also featured cultural performances, goodwill messages from industry stakeholders including Lashibi Funeral Home, and a dedication by the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, Joseph Afrifah Agyekum, who prayed for the success of the establishment.

Guests toured the facility, engaging with management and staff, and praised the initiative as a modern landmark for the community. The Eastern Funeral Home Ltd. is expected to enhance access to advanced mortuary services, reduce travel burdens for families, and generate economic activity in the local area.
