Prosper Ogum reveals reason behind Asante Kotoko’s scoring woes

Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, attributes his team’s low goal count to the contrasting performance of his players in training sessions versus real games.
Following Kotoko’s goalless draw with Medeama SC at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa, Dr. Ogum expressed his thoughts in a post-game interview.
This result comes after Kotoko’s controversial 1-0 victory over FC Samartex, which marked the end of a seven-game winless streak.
In that match, striker Steven Mukwala found the net in the 22nd minute for Kotoko, only for Diawisie Taylor to equalize for Medeama with a converted penalty kick in the 57th minute.
Reflecting on his team’s missed opportunities in the draw, Dr. Ogum acknowledged that Kotoko consistently struggles to replicate their fine goal-scoring form from training sessions in real games.
“It’s been happening throughout the season,” Prosper Ogum said.
“We create a lot of chances but then the conversion is the issue. Interestingly too we’ve been training on it, at training they score a lot of goals but then the tempo and temperament of training and games are different.
“I think we still need to work on it and be sure that the few chances that come our way we will be able to convert.
“The game is about scoring goals and once you score, it gives you the confidence.”
Kotoko are scheduled to face Legon Cities next on Friday, May 3rd.
