Black Stars head coach search committee set February 2 as deadline for submission of applications

By Daniel ODURO, Accra

The Committee tasked to search for a new Black Stars Head Coach has set Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:59pm as the final deadline for the submission of applications for the job.

The GFA Executive Committee tasked a five-member Committee headed by GFA Vice President Mark Addo to look for a new national team Coach for the Senior Men’s National Team (Black Stars).

The Committee was also mandated to target suitable and competent coaches for consideration even if they don’t apply for the post.

The GFA is looking for a new head coach following the dismissal of Chris Hughton who superintended over Ghana’s disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Ivory Coast earlier this month.

The FA believes Ghana’s capitulation was largely due to the technical team’s failure and not the quality of players at the nation’s disposal.

Meanwhile, renowned legal practitioner Ace Ankomah has declined an invitation to serve as Vice – Chairman on the five-member Committee set up by the Ghana Football Association to find a new coach for Ghana’s Black Stars.

The Committee, led by GFA Vice President Mark Addo, also comprises of Professor Joseph Mintah, Sports Ministry Chief Director William Caesar Kartey and Ghanaian Football legend Opoku Nti.

The search has become necessary after the decision was taken to sack Chris Hughton following Ghana’s Group stage exit from the ongoing Afcon.

The committee has three weeks to recommend a coach to the GFA Executive council for approval.
