Man arrested over murder of missing UEW lecturer

Police have confirmed the arrest of a man following the discovery of a buried body believed to be that of a missing Senior Lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The Central Regional Police Command confirmed that Joshua Karry Arthur was arrested at the home of the deceased in Essuekyir, a suburb of Winneba, during an operation launched after colleagues of the lecturer filed a missing person report on May 21.

According to police, after several failed attempts to reach the lecturer, his coworkers grew concerned and notified authorities, prompting a swift investigation.

The search led officers to the lecturer’s residence, where the suspect was found. A subsequent search of the area uncovered a buried body beneath a heap of sand roughly 23 meters from the house.

Police say the body, believed to be that of the missing lecturer, has been retrieved and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

In a statement, authorities revealed that “several personal items belonging to the deceased were recovered from the suspect, including mobile phones, a laptop, a television set, and a car key.”

The suspect, Joshua Karry Arthur, is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned in the coming days. The Central Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
