Ghana midfielder Kamal Sowah slapped with driving ban in Belgium

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Ghanaian attacking midfielder Kamal Sowah, who plays for Club Brugge, has been handed a three-month driving ban after being caught speeding at 172 km/h on the E40 highway in Aalter, Belgium.

The 24-year-old, who has a history of speeding offenses, failed to appear in police court due to training commitments. At the time of the incident, Sowah also did not have his identity card on him.

The police judge in Ghent ruled that one month of the ban is effective immediately, while the remaining two months are conditional.

In addition, Sowah has been fined 840 euros and must retake four driving exams. Despite his recent legal troubles, an appeal against the court’s decision remains possible.

Sowah, who joined Club Brugge in 2021 for a hefty fee of 9 million euros, has had a rocky stint, with his form dipping after a promising start. Loan spells at AZ and Standard Liege failed to reignite his career, and he has been relegated to the B squad. His contract runs until June 2025.
