Health Minister Commends CHAG for Compassionate and Ethical Care

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has praised the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) for its unwavering commitment to compassionate healthcare and ethical leadership, describing the Association as a trusted partner in advancing Ghana’s national health agenda.
Speaking at the 5th Annual General Conference of CHAG, held under the theme “Sustaining Christian Identity, Values, and Ethics in Health Systems Strengthening,” Mr. Akandoh lauded the Association for its decades-long contribution to Ghana’s healthcare system, particularly in providing essential services to underserved and remote communities.
The Minister stressed that true healthcare goes beyond medical expertise, emphasizing the importance of empathy and compassion in patient care.
“Patients often feel treated but not always cared for. This conference reminds us to restore the soul of healthcare, where every encounter becomes a touch of grace,” he said.
Mr. Akandoh announced that the Ministry of Health will strengthen its support for CHAG’s training institutions, promote ethical leadership across the sector, and incorporate CHAG’s core Christian values into the forthcoming Health Sector Medium-Term Development Plan (2026–2029).
Highlighting key government initiatives, he cited the Free Primary Healthcare Policy and MahamaCares programme as transformative interventions aimed at ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied access to healthcare due to financial or geographical barriers.
The Minister noted that CHAG’s extensive presence in hard-to-reach areas makes it an indispensable partner in implementing these national programmes.
“Where resources are limited, values and faith multiply impact,” he remarked.
Mr. Akandoh further pledged deeper collaboration between the Ministry, CHAG, and other private-sector stakeholders to accelerate the completion of the government’s Agenda 111 hospital project, which aims to expand healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
The Minister commended CHAG’s mission as “a sacred calling to heal, uplift, and protect life.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with CHAG to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system while upholding the principles of compassion, ethics, and inclusivity that define quality health service delivery.
