Mobile Money Transactions Hit Record GH¢434bn in October — BoG Report

Ghana’s mobile money ecosystem continues to expand rapidly, with the value of transactions reaching a record GH¢434.7 billion in October 2025, the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana has revealed.

The October figure represents a significant jump from the GH¢406.9 billion recorded in September, underscoring the growing reliance on digital financial services across the country. It also marks one of the strongest monthly performances since mobile money was introduced.

The report shows that the number of active mobile money accounts rose to 25.3 million, up from 25.0 million the previous month, reflecting increased user activity. The agent network also expanded, with active agents rising to 453,000, compared to 435,000 in September.

Analysts say the steady growth in mobile money usage highlights Ghana’s ongoing transition toward a more digital and cash-lite economy. The platform continues to dominate payment channels, offering convenience for everyday transactions, merchant payments, and peer-to-peer transfers.

Mobile Money Interoperability also recorded gains during the period, with transaction values reaching GH¢5 billion in October, reinforcing the growing integration between wallets, banks, and various service providers.

The Bank of Ghana notes that the sustained expansion of mobile financial services has contributed significantly to payment efficiency, financial inclusion, and overall liquidity within the economy.
