Kuami Eugene Says Pressure to Deliver Constant Hits Is ‘Fantastically Huge’

Award-winning Ghanaian artiste Kuami Eugene has opened up about the intense expectations placed on him by fans, revealing that the pressure to consistently release hit songs is “fantastically huge.”
Speaking in an interview during a private listening session for his ‘Sweet Boy’ EP in Accra, the “Rockstar” hitmaker explained that the pressure feels uniquely directed at him rather than the entire industry. “I don’t think it’s Ghanaians expecting so much from artistes. I think they’re expecting so much from Kuami Eugene,” he said.
He noted that while some artistes can go years without producing major hits and still enjoy public support, he is expected to deliver chart-topping songs frequently. “There are a lot of artistes who no get like a hit song for the past five years… and it’s calm, people are okay with them. But they want Kuami Eugene to come with a hit song every month,” he lamented.
Kuami Eugene described such expectations as unrealistic, stressing that creativity requires time, patience and balance. “The fact that I can doesn’t mean I should do it. Drop a hit song every month? Chill, give me some time,” he added.
He also emphasised the importance of personal well-being, noting that rest and family life are essential for sustaining creativity. “I got family. Sometimes you need to rest your head away from everything and just chill some more,” he said.
