Zoomlion confirms YEA contract ended naturally

Waste management firm Zoomlion Ghana Limited has clarified that its contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for the Street Sweeping Programme expired naturally in September 2024, following a six-month extension, and was neither cancelled nor terminated by the government.

The company responded to a June 11, 2025 letter from the Office of the President, which confirmed the contract would not be renewed. Future sanitation contracts will now be awarded through competitive tendering, aligning with government efforts to improve accountability and procurement transparency.

Zoomlion welcomed the reforms, highlighting that the original contract was competitively procured in 2019 and expressing readiness to participate in upcoming tenders. The company also supports the planned audit of payments made post-contract expiry and endorses government initiatives to enhance pay conditions for sanitation workers.

Beyond Ghana, Zoomlion’s sanitation model has attracted interest from 24 other African countries, with ongoing discussions and feasibility studies underway.

Reaffirming its commitment to Ghana’s ‘RESET’ agenda, Zoomlion emphasized its dedication to building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient economy.
