African youth poised to lead digitalization- Morafo
MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo, has expressed her confidence in the readiness of African youth to spearhead technological advancements across the continent.
This affirmation came during her participation in a panel discussion on the second day of the 2024 African Prosperity Dialogues held in Accra, Ghana. The panel focused on “Critical Enablers for Single Market Success– Leveraging Infrastructure, Innovation, and Technology.”
Morafo conveyed her faith in the entrepreneurial spirit of African youth, stating, “I have so much faith in Africa. I strongly believe the African youth is more than ready to lead the charge to drive the digitization agenda across the continent.”
She emphasized that the key lies in providing the necessary resources to the youth, making connectivity accessible for them to leverage for innovative pursuits.
Addressing the digital literacy challenge, Morafo highlighted MTN’s efforts, such as the launch of the MTN Skills Academy in eight of the markets where the company operates.
She stressed the importance of collaboration between governments and private sector players to promote digital literacy, enabling youth to transition from consumers to effective users of digital tools for both business management and personal lifestyles.
Morafo concluded, “We must work together as governments and as players in the private sector to push the digital literacy agenda. This way, our youth will move from simply being consumers to properly using the tools provided to manage businesses and their lifestyles as well.”
The 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue spans three days, focusing on proposing concrete measures to drive Africa’s progress. Themed “Delivering Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, Trade,” the high-level dialogue brings together government and business leaders from across Africa and beyond to deliberate and exchange ideas on key issues and solutions for building and harnessing Africa’s growth.
