GACL Announces Temporary Closure of Terminal 2 Access Road

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced a temporary partial closure of the access road in front of the Departure Hall at Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport as part of ongoing refurbishment works at the facility.

According to a public notice issued by the company, the closure will take effect from Monday, May 11, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for one month. The measure is intended to create a safe working environment for contractors undertaking refitting works on the frontage and facade of Terminal 2.

Management of GACL explained that the exercise forms part of efforts to improve infrastructure and maintain high operational and safety standards at the country’s premier international airport. During the construction period, both vehicular and pedestrian movement within the affected section of the terminal will be restricted to ensure the safety of airport users and workers on site.

The company stated that traffic management personnel would be deployed throughout the period to direct motorists and passengers within the airport enclave. In addition, directional signs will be mounted at strategic points to guide road users and minimise congestion around the affected area.

GACL assured passengers, airport staff, and visitors that measures have been put in place to reduce inconvenience and maintain smooth operations at the airport despite the temporary disruption. The company indicated that access to other parts of the airport would remain operational while work continues on the frontage of Terminal 2.

Airport authorities further appealed to travellers and motorists to comply with traffic directions and cooperate with officials assigned to manage movement around the construction zone. Management expressed regret over the inconvenience the project may cause but stressed that the temporary measures are necessary to improve the safety, appearance, and functionality of the terminal facility.

Kotoka International Airport remains one of the busiest transport hubs in West Africa, serving both domestic and international passengers. Terminal 2 primarily handles domestic flights and selected regional operations, making the maintenance and upgrading of its infrastructure critical to efficient airport operations.

The refurbishment exercise is expected to enhance the overall appearance of the terminal and improve the experience of passengers using the facility. GACL reiterated its commitment to maintaining world-class standards at the airport while ensuring the safety and comfort of travellers and stakeholders throughout the construction period.
