Empress Gifty sparks debate after saying she charges ¢50,000 to perform

Gospel musician Empress Gifty is facing public backlash after boldly stating in a viral video that she will not perform at any event unless she is paid a minimum of GHS50,000.
The video, which began circulating widely on social media platforms on Tuesday, captured the singer saying: “As I am standing here, the least I would charge your people is GH¢50,000, and I would take it. If you don’t pay me such an amount, I won’t perform.”
Her remarks have since sparked heated debate online, with many Ghanaians questioning the justification for such a high fee, especially from a gospel artist. Critics argue that gospel music, which is often rooted in ministry and community service, should not be commercialized to that extent.
While some fans defended her right to earn from her craft, others felt her statement contradicts the core values of gospel ministry, which emphasize service, humility, and accessibility.
