Unai Emery Masterclass as Aston Villa Beat Newcastle United 2–0

Aston Villa delivered a tactically astute away performance to claim a deserved 2–0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with goals in either half underlining Unai Emery’s growing influence on the side.
The visitors made a bright start and were rewarded in the 18th minute when Emiliano Buendía produced a moment of brilliance, firing a stunning right-footed strike from outside the penalty area beyond the reach of goalkeeper Nick Pope to give Villa an early advantage.
Newcastle responded by increasing the tempo and pushing for an equaliser before the interval, but they were repeatedly frustrated by Villa’s well-organised defence. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez also played a key role, producing a series of assured saves to preserve the lead as the hosts searched for a way back into the contest.
Eddie Howe’s side emerged with renewed intensity after the break, creating several openings through Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon. However, a lack of composure in the final third continued to undermine their efforts, while Villa remained disciplined, soaking up pressure and threatening on the counter-attack.
Villa’s patience was rewarded late on. In the 87th minute, Ollie Watkins rose above the Newcastle defence to head home from close range following a well-delivered Lucas Digne corner, effectively sealing the result.
Despite sustained late pressure and eight minutes of added time, Newcastle were unable to find a breakthrough as Villa calmly saw out the closing stages.
The victory represents an important away win for Aston Villa as they continue their push up the table, while Newcastle are left to rue missed chances on a frustrating night in front of their home supporters.
