120 Awarded MTN scholarships

MTN Ghana Foundation has extended scholarships to 120 students under its MTN Bright Scholarship Reloaded programme this year .
The 120 tertiary students were selected from a pool of 200 shortlisted applicants from 17 Ghanaian Universities to receive funding for their education.
The MTN Bright Scholarship Reloaded is an improvement of the MTN Bright Scholarship which was launched in 2018. The scheme aims to assist students who are brilliant but needy to complete their tertiary education.
MTN Ghana is committing a total of GHS13.5 million to the scholarship scheme for three years with GHS2.2 million earmarked for this year’s cohort of awardee.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh said that the MTN Bright Scholarship is a fulfilment of the commitment MTN made to Ghanaians during it’s 20th and 25th Anniversary Celebrations.
He stated that the Bright Scholarship Awards are not merely about recognising academic excellences, but about influencing the destiny of Ghana.
He noted that the scholarship offers hope and empowers the dreams of many talented young ones.
He indicated that this year, the scholarship awards have been increased from 100 students to 120 students due to the competitiveness of the application and the increase needs for support.
“The beneficiaries were selected from 17 public universities across the country, out of which nine are differently abled” he said.
The CEO of MTN Ghana stated that the scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, stipend and a laptop.
He mentioned that as a company, they believe that the scholarship will help ease the financial burden faced by the students and give them the peace of mind to excel as they complete their education.
“The future of the youth in Ghana and Africa on the whole is very dear to our hearts here at MTN. Our goal is to nurture home grown graduates and talents across different industries and harness the power of innovation and technology for opportunities in the global economy” he stressed.
Selorm Adadevoh encouraged students to use their knowledge and skills to advance the society.
He advised the awardees to make the most of the opportunity, not for themselves and their families alone but also for many who will be inspired by their journey and success.
The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe said that MTN believes that education remains a very powerful tool with which they can change the destinies of citizens to live a productive life.
She stated that MTN is committed to supporting and partnering government to help improve access to education for many citizens.
She noted that this year’s scholarship is focused on Science, technology, engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Information Communication and Technology (ICT) courses, which is in line with the company’s digital skills development strategy and the government’s digitalization agenda.
“We believe that technology is the future and it is in our common interest to facilitate the development of a pipeline of skills that are relevant for the workforce of the future” she stressed.
She congratulated the awardee and urged them to take their studies seriously and engage in other curriculum activities as well as make new friends.
