Old Mutual Ghana advocates early breast cancer detection

Old Mutual Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting health and wellness by actively participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.
Through a series of initiatives, the insurance and financial services provider is calling on all Ghanaians, particularly women, to adopt proactive measures for early breast cancer detection, encouraging regular self-examinations and medical screenings as vital steps to mitigate the risks associated with breast cancer.
Highlighting the urgency of the cause, Old Mutual Ghana pointed out that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Ghana. However, early detection plays a significant role in increasing the likelihood of successful treatment and improving survival rates.
The company explained that it is advocating for heightened awareness and proactive detection practices, noting that tools like routine self-examinations and mammograms can make a critical difference in catching the disease early.
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Old Mutual Ghana has rolled out a range of initiatives designed to raise awareness and promote wellness. These activities include health talks, breast screening sessions, and aerobic exercises for several corporate clients and institutions. Among those engaged are the Young Adults Fellowship (YAF) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Beach FM, a prominent radio station in Takoradi. The health talks provide essential information about breast cancer risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of regular medical check-ups, empowering participants with knowledge to make informed health decisions.
Reinforcing its commitment to community support, Old Mutual Ghana has also launched a Breast Cancer Support Community, inviting individuals from all walks of life to join. The company explained that this initiative is designed to provide a support network for those affected by breast cancer, whether directly or indirectly. By joining this community, participants gain access to a wealth of resources, expert advice, and encouragement. The support community offers members access to advice on breast cancer prevention, treatment, and recovery, along with regular reminders and guidance on performing self-examinations.
Old Mutual Ghana also plans to organize exclusive events through this support community, such as wellness workshops, interactive sessions with healthcare professionals, and medical screenings, all aimed at creating a space where people affected by breast cancer can connect and support one another. By facilitating these connections and sharing stories of hope and resilience, the community aims to foster a sense of solidarity among its members. In its statement, Old Mutual Ghana emphasized that as an organization built on values of respect and mutual support, it is committed to building a future where fewer lives are lost to breast cancer. The company called on both individuals and organizations to work together in the fight against the disease, stressing that collective action is vital in reducing the impact of breast cancer across the country. Through these efforts, Old Mutual Ghana hopes to create a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by breast cancer, ensuring that awareness, support, and education remain cornerstones of the campaign for early detection and improved health outcomes in Ghana.
