Ahmed Suale: Police yet to submit any docket fit for purpose – Attorney-General

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has provided clarity on the status of investigations into the tragic murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

Despite ongoing efforts, Dame emphasized that his office has yet to receive any prosecutable docket or action regarding the case.

Initially, four suspects were detained to aid in the investigation, but they were subsequently released on police enquiry bail due to a lack of identification by eyewitnesses.

Suale, unfortunately, lost his life on January 16, 2019, in a senseless act of violence perpetrated by two unidentified individuals on a motorbike with concealed license plates.

The incident occurred in Madina as Suale was returning from a family meeting.

During a parliamentary session, Minister Dame reiterated that Suale’s murder is one of many pending cases.

He clarified that the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service is actively handling the matter, but as of yet, no document suitable for prosecution has been forwarded to his office.

Dame highlighted his engagement with the former Inspector of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, who expressed concern over the unresolved case during a courtesy call in March 2021.

Dame sought updates on the investigation’s progress and requested a comprehensive report from the Director-General of CID.

The Minister’s remarks underscore the seriousness with which the government regards the pursuit of justice in cases of violence and wrongdoing.

While the lack of progress may be frustrating, it’s essential to recognize ongoing efforts to bring closure to Suale’s tragic death and other pending cases.

As investigations continue, it is hoped that justice will prevail, providing solace to Suale’s loved ones and reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
