Kofi Adjorlolo warns Ghanaian film industry is no place for next generation

Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has expressed concern about the current state of the Ghanaian movie industry, stating that he would not permit his children to venture into acting under its present conditions.

Speaking on a show, the celebrated actor, known for his decades-long contribution to Ghana’s entertainment landscape, lamented the dwindling standards and lack of structure within the film industry. He cited poor support systems, inadequate welfare measures for actors, and the absence of essential protections such as insurance as major setbacks.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t encourage my children to go into acting. The current situation in Ghana isn’t encouraging, attractive, or enabling for young ones to thrive in this field. Do we even have insurance to back our actors and actresses?” Mr. Adjorlolo asked.

According to him, the film space is no longer a promising avenue for the younger generation, with little incentive or assurance for growth and sustainability.

Beyond the challenges in the movie industry, the actor also opened up about his early life and his deep-seated love for music. He revealed that music was his first passion and that by the age of eight, he had already mastered the trumpet. “I love music so much that as of 8 years old, I could play the trumpet so well,” he shared, offering a glimpse into the lesser-known artistic side of his youth.
