U20 Girls’ Cup: Princesses fail to defend title, but coach Sampson is ‘satisfied’.
Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says he is “satisfied” with his team’s performance despite surrendering their title in the WAFU B U‑20 Girls’ Cup in Benin. Ghana lost the title to Nigeria after two defeats against the Falconets during the tournament. The Black Princesses played four matches, winning both games against Benin and losing the other two to Nigeria. In the two matches against the host country they scored four goals, but overall they conceded six and managed only one.
Speaking after the final game, Sampson assessed his side:
“I’m very, very satisfied with many things, but our lack of concentration that led to conceding a goal like this is a hard one to take. The purpose of coming here is also to identify areas we need to develop and to see how we handle different situations.”
He added, “With that said, I’m very, very happy that we were able to experience this while we have something great ahead of us, which we are looking forward to.”
Ghana won the first edition of the tournament, which was staged in Kumasi two years ago, beating Nigeria in the final.
