BOST welcomes Awoonor as 7th MD

The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has a new Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, whose tenure officially began on January 20, 2025. His appointment by President John Dramani Mahama is seen as a significant milestone for the state-owned enterprise, which plays a vital role in Ghana’s energy security.
Mr. Awoonor, a seasoned energy executive, steps into the role with extensive expertise in Sub-Saharan oil and gas trading. He takes over from Dr. Edwin Provencal, who handed over the reins during a formal ceremony at BOST’s headquarters in Accra. The event was lauded for its exemplary demonstration of corporate governance.
Vision for BOST’s Growth
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Awoonor expressed gratitude to his predecessor and laid out his vision for the company.
“I am deeply honored to lead BOST at this pivotal time. Under Dr. Provencal’s leadership, the company has achieved remarkable progress, and I am committed to building on this foundation. My focus will be on fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence to propel BOST to greater heights,” he said.
The new MD highlighted plans to prioritize internal stakeholder engagement, promising to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
A Wealth of Experience
Mr. Awoonor brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Before his appointment, he served as Senior Partner at DOC Africa and Regional Head of Sales and Marketing at Convenio Energy, overseeing hydrocarbon trading across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Notably, he returns to BOST, where he previously served as Manager of Government Relations.
His academic background includes advanced degrees in oil and gas management from the Geneva Graduate Institute and IFP School, providing a solid technical foundation for his leadership.
Stakeholder Support
The transition has been warmly received by key stakeholders. The BOST Senior Staff Union has pledged its full cooperation, expressing confidence in Mr. Awoonor’s ability to steer the company toward achieving its strategic objectives.
In a statement, the union noted, “Mr. Awoonor’s appointment underscores the President’s commitment to selecting highly qualified individuals to lead vital institutions. We stand ready to support him in driving BOST’s growth.”
Community leaders, including the Weta Traditional Area Chiefs’ Council, have also expressed their pride in Mr. Awoonor’s elevation, highlighting his track record of excellence and dedication.
