I have never had any voice training, God takes care of my voice – Amy Newman

Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Amy Newman has opened up about her remarkable journey in music, which began at the age of six when she first discovered her singing talent.
Speaking on ZED Gospel Groove on ZED101.9FM, the ‘Tsie Me Mobor Su’ hitmaker recounted how her father nurtured her gift and encouraged her to sing whenever guests visited their home.
“I started at the age of six when I realised I could sing. Anytime people came to visit my dad, I would ask, ‘Daddy, can I sing?’ He would allow me, and I would sing church songs, school songs, or the ones we children used to enjoy,” she shared.
Amy revealed that her love for singing continued through her school years and early involvement in the Catholic Church. By age 10, she was actively participating in school and church choirs, experiences that helped shape her musical foundation.
Reflecting on her spiritual journey, Amy recounted how becoming born again transformed her outlook and deepened her calling in music.
“When I got married, life brought many challenges, but that was also when I became born again. I realised God had something special for me. During church services, whenever the pastor preached, the Holy Ghost would whisper songs to me. I would ask permission to sing, and the songs always aligned with the message,” she revealed.
Amy explained that her relationship with God became the driving force behind her ministry. She turned to fasting and prayer, seeking divine guidance for every step of her music career.
“Through fasting, everything started to take shape. I began to understand that my music was not just talent, it was ministry,” she indicated.
The gospel icon also noted that there were times she felt led to pause her musical activities to focus on church work and personal reflection.
When asked about her enduring vocal strength, Amy Newman said she has never received formal voice training. Instead, she attributes the preservation of her voice entirely to divine care.
“I have never had any voice training. I believe God takes care of my voice. It has changed over the years, the tone, the depth but it is all in His hands,” she said, adding that she does not take compliments about her voice too seriously because she views it as a gift from God.
The artiste continues to see her music as a divine calling, trusting the Holy Spirit to lead her in every song and every stage of her journey.
