Mourinho in Final Negotiations for Real Madrid Return
Jose Mourinho is in final negotiations to become Real Madrid next head coach thirteen years after his first spell at the Bernabeu.
The sixty three year old is the clear favourite and currently the only candidate Real Madrid are in talks with over the role.
He would replace current head coach Alvaro Arbeloa who took charge in January following Xabi Alonso departure.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez first considered the possibility of Mourinho return two days after Xabi Alonso left the club during initial conversations with the Portuguese coach representatives.
Mourinho has been manager of Benfica in his native Portugal since joining on a two year contract last September and only yesterday told media he did not want to talk about his future just yet.
“There is a match against Estoril and from Monday onwards I will be able to answer questions about my future as a coach and Benfica future” he said.
Saturday game against Estoril Praia is Benfica last of the season.
He was in charge at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013 winning La Liga the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
The potential return of Mourinho has generated significant interest among Real Madrid supporters who recall his intense and successful spell at the club where he helped restore domestic dominance and strengthen squad competitiveness in Spain and Europe during his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium while discussions continue between club hierarchy and his representatives over a possible agreement that could see him return to one of football most high profile managerial positions in world football.
Talks are expected to intensify in the coming days as both sides assess contractual terms and sporting plans ahead of a possible announcement before the new season begins in European football competitions across the continent later this year.
