MTN, Enterprise Group lift GSE to GH¢164.6bn high

Ghana’s equities market advanced on Wednesday, buoyed by strong gains in heavyweight telecom operator MTN Ghana and insurer Enterprise Group, which pushed the benchmark index to fresh highs and lifted the market’s overall capitalisation above GHS164 billion.
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) gained 2 per cent to close at 8,330.55 points, up from 8,168.35 on Tuesday, while the Financial Stocks Index edged 0.08 per cent higher to 3,802.51 points.
The latest rise means the GSE-CI has surged 70.41 per cent since the beginning of 2025, cementing Ghana’s stock market as one of Africa’s best-performing bourses this year.
Trading volumes totalled 1.15 million shares on Wednesday, with a market value of GHS3.12 million.
This was modestly higher than Tuesday’s GHS4 million turnover but below Monday’s GHS8.36 million, when volumes exceeded two million shares, highlighting recent volatility in trading activity.
MTN Ghana (MTNGH) once again proved to be the market’s key driver, rising 15 pesewas to close at GHS4.50.
The stock alone accounted for more than half of the day’s total value traded, with 505,273 shares changing hands at a value of GHS2.27 million.
Enterprise Group (EGL) also saw notable gains, rising 15 pesewas to finish at GHS3.35, while GCB Bank (GCB) edged one pesewa higher to GHS14.11.
The combination of these movements added momentum to the market, though MTN’s dominance underscored its outsized influence on the index.
As a result, total market capitalisation increased to GHS164.6 billion, compared with GHS162.3 billion at Tuesday’s close.
