An esteemed delegation from the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), spearheaded by Hollywood actor Dr. Idris Elba and SDF CEO Denelle Dixon, embarked on a significant mission as they paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana

The primary focus of the delegation’s visit was to introduce a groundbreaking blockchain-based fintech innovation aimed at revolutionizing the compensation framework within the local creative industry.

This innovative solution, meticulously crafted by the non-profit SDF, seeks to ensure equitable remuneration for participants in the creative sector whose works achieve commercial success on a global scale.

Furthermore, it aims to facilitate greater accessibility to financial resources for emerging artists and creators through the implementation of smart contracts.

Addressing a prevalent challenge faced by industry players in Africa, particularly Ghana, the initiative aims to rectify the exclusion of many from the global payments ecosystem.

This exclusion has resulted in rampant infringements upon intellectual properties (IPs) and copyrights, alongside the hinderance of accessing vital funding opportunities for growth.

The delegation emphasized the urgent need to rectify this systemic issue to enable creators to rightfully earn from the commercial utilization of their works worldwide.

During the discussions, both parties delved into exploring potential avenues for piloting technology and policy innovations geared towards bolstering the administration of IPs and copyrights.

The ultimate goal is to empower local content creators and safeguard their intellectual rights effectively.

Ghana was strategically chosen as a potential pilot country for this groundbreaking innovation due to the nation’s advancements in central bank digital currency, particularly the eCedi, and its broader efforts in tokenization.

In a joint expression of commitment, both the Bank of Ghana and the Stellar Development Foundation reiterated their dedication to collaborative efforts aimed at fostering long-term benefits for the creative industry, particularly the youth.

This partnership signals a pivotal step forward in leveraging technology to empower Ghanaian creators and propel the nation’s creative sector onto the global stage.
