GTA marks 50th anniversary with awards ceremony

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) commemorated its 50th Anniversary by recognizing and awarding individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to the growth of the tourism subsector in the country.
The awards were presented during a dinner and awards night organized as part of the National Tourism Awards.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, expressed appreciation to all those who have invested in the industry, acknowledging their crucial roles in advancing and expanding Ghana’s tourism sector.
The awards ceremony, held on Wednesday, aimed not only to acknowledge outstanding achievements but also to celebrate innovation, dedication, and enterprise that have propelled the nation’s tourism landscape to new heights.
Dr. Awal emphasized that the awards night is a moment to recognize exceptional achievements in the industry, stating, “It is not just about the exceptional achievements in the industry but a means of convening and honoring the innovation, dedication, and enterprise that have propelled the nation’s tourism landscape to new heights.”
Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Akwasi Agyeman, received the Minister’s Special Award for his outstanding work in growing tourism over the last few years.
He described the Honorary Tourism Awards as a testament to the commitment to excellence in the sector.
He highlighted that through the passion, dedication, and innovation of individuals and organizations, they have not only contributed to the economic growth of the nation but have also enhanced the tourism experience for visitors.
During the awards ceremony, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister of Agriculture and owner of Rock City Hotel, was honored in the Tourism Investment Category.
Nana (Dr) Adu-Sarkodee Afriyie of Peninsula Hotel and Frank Nana Buah were also recognized in the tourism Investment category.
Ibrahim Mahama of Red Clay received an award in the Artistic Support to the Tourism Industry Category, along with Okyeame Kwame.
Kwame Ofosu Bamfo (Sikkens) was honored with a lifetime award for his significant contribution to Tourism Development.
The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) received recognition for their outstanding contribution to tourism development.
The event served as a moment to reflect on remarkable milestones achieved in Ghana’s tourism sector and encouraged award winners to continue striving for excellence, sustainability, and inclusivity to maintain Ghana as a destination of choice.
