Kotoko defender Mohammed Nurudeen leaves to pursue nursing career

Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko have announced the mutual termination of the contract of defender Mohammed Nurudeen.

The experienced centre-back joined the Porcupine Warriors last season but has opted to prioritise his nursing career over football.

Despite being a key player for the club and having a two-year contract, Kotoko have agreed to release Nurudeen after failing to secure a permanent transfer for him to Kumasi.

The club stated that this decision was made in the best interest of both parties.

“Asante Kotoko has agreed to mutually part ways with defender Mohammed Nurudeen,” a statement on the club’s website read.

“The club entered into a three-year employment agreement with Nurudeen before the commencement of the 2023/24 football season.

“However, management notes that Nurudeen also has a contract with the Ghana Health Service as a practicing enrolled nurse. The club explored all possible options to convince him to focus on his football career, but Nurudeen remained committed to his career in nursing.”

The departure of Nurudeen comes as a blow to the club as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The season will start in September with Kotoko playing Karela United in their first game.
