Simplify corporate reports for investors — Ghana Stock Exchange urges journalists

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has called on financial and economic journalists to move beyond reporting raw figures and instead demystify corporate disclosures by telling stories that inform and empower investors.
The call was made during a training session jointly organised by the GSE and the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ), aimed at strengthening the capacity of the media to deliver accurate and insightful financial reporting.
Delivering remarks on behalf of Deputy Managing Director, Mr Frank Berle, Mrs Harriet Bus-Moses, Head of Trading and Surveillance at the GSE, underscored the media’s role in building a vibrant capital market.
She noted that corporate disclosures are not just numbers or statutory filings; they are the stories of businesses, their challenges, opportunities and journeys of growth.
According to her, when journalists explain these disclosures in relatable ways, they help build investor trust, shape sound financial decisions and deepen public confidence in the market.
Mrs Bus-Moses added that when these stories are well understood and accurately told, they bridge the gap between companies and investors.
The Exchange emphasised that its long-standing collaboration with the media has been key to boosting investor confidence.
Timely and accurate coverage of dividend payments, bond issuances and commercial paper redemptions, it said, helps investors make informed choices while attracting new participants to the market.
The training coincided with the release of new performance figures highlighting the Exchange’s strong growth.
As of 21 August 2025, the GSE Composite Index had gained 50.08 percent year-to-date, while the Financial Stock Index had advanced by 43.30 percent.
On the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM), trading volume hit GHS143.21 billion by 20 August, representing a 51.33 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024.
Mrs Bus-Moses also highlighted the readiness of all six GSE markets, the Main Market, Ghana Alternative Market, Ghana Fixed Income Market, Green and Sustainable Bonds Market, Commercial Paper Market and the Over-the-Counter Market to meet the capital-raising and investment needs of companies and individuals.
She concluded that empowering journalists with the tools to clarify financial data is vital for sustaining growth in Ghana’s capital market.
