ACEP hosts landmark climate action confab

THE Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has launched an innovative Climate Action Conference, bringing together stakeholders from academia, industry, and civil society to foster sustainable solutions for climate resilience in Ghana.
Themed ‘Building a Sustainable and Equitable Future: Green Solutions for Climate Resilience in Ghana,’ the event sought to bridge the long-standing gap between research and practical implementation of climate action strategies.
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Climate Resilience
Speaking at the event, Charles Ofori, Policy Lead on Climate Change and Energy Transition at ACEP, emphasized the importance of collaboration and an inclusive approach to climate action.
“What I see mostly is that we call academia theorists, and then we call other groups practitioners, but I believe we’re all practitioners in some way if we’re able to merge and bridge that gap,” he noted.
The conference explored diverse thematic areas critical to climate resilience, including:
- Climate Finance and ESG Solutions
- Traditional and Indigenous Methods for Climate Action
- Circular Economy and Waste Management
- Technology and Innovation in Climate Action
By focusing on these areas, the conference underscored the multifaceted nature of climate challenges, which require not only renewable energy solutions like solar and wind power but also financial strategies, technological innovation, and social equity frameworks.
Creating Scalable Solutions Through Collaboration
Organizers stressed the significance of collaboration among academics, civil society, and industry leaders. According to Mr. Ofori, the conference seeks to “engender new thinking around how governments and society can deal with the precarious nature of climate change issues.”

“The plan is to create a good platform where academics, civil society, and industry can integrate and interact,” Ofori explained, adding that this approach could inspire projects that tackle Ghana’s pressing climate challenges.

One key outcome of the conference will be the publication of a compendium of unedited research material. This document will serve as a valuable resource for stakeholders, providing a foundation for the implementation and scaling of proposed solutions.
