Accra roads to close Friday for helicopter crash state funeral

The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Accra on Friday, 15 August.
This is to ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth movement of mourners during the inter-denominational and inter-faith state funeral for victims of the 6 August helicopter crash.
A statement issued by the Service, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ASP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi on Wednesday, 14 August, listed the following roads that will be closed to traffic:
28th February Road, from CEPS Traffic Light Intersection to Castle Road Junction
Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on Lokko Street
Castle Road, from AU Roundabout to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light
Starlet 91 Road at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection
Diversion Routes include:
Traffic from La, Labone, and Osu heading towards Accra Central or the Ministries via 28th February Road will be diverted onto Salem Avenue at the Castle Traffic Light, joining Oxford Street.
Motorists from Lokko Street, Osu, heading towards Castle Road, should use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street.
Also, traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards Black Star Square will be diverted onto Liberia Road at the CEPS Traffic Intersection, heading towards the National Theatre.
Traffic from the AU Circle to Castle Road via Osu Cemetery Traffic Light will be redirected onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads, linking with Abdul Nasser Road near the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Only vehicles with red VVIP windscreen stickers will be permitted to enter and park at Black Star Square. Designated parking areas include:
Black Star Square (VVIP, VIP)
State House Forecourt
Accra International Conference Centre
Access Bank Car Park
Osu Cemetery Car Park
Accra Sports Stadium Car Park
Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park
Marine Drive Football Park
Afua Sutherland Car Park
Other approved spaces within the Ministries enclave
The Police cautioned that no vehicles will be permitted to park at unauthorised locations or bypass roadblocks. Towing trucks will be on standby to remove any wrongly parked or abandoned vehicles.
Traffic officers will also be deployed to direct motorists to approved car parks and diversion routes.
It advised motorists to plan alternative routes in advance and cooperate fully with security personnel to ensure effective traffic control during the state funeral.
