AMA to Roll Out Massive Revenue Mobilization Exercise
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced it will dispatch a special task force starting Monday, November 10, 2025, to recover all outstanding revenues owed for the 2025 fiscal year. This initiative is aimed at bolstering the Assembly’s finances and enhancing service delivery across the capital.
The Head of Public Affairs for the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, who signed the notice, said the Revenue Mobilisation Task Force will be visiting “business premises, properties, and advertising locations to reconcile bills and collect outstanding payments.”
All businesses, property owners, and outdoor advertising firms operating in Accra are required to cooperate with the task force.
Ratepayers have been directed to make available valid receipts for Business Operating Permits, Property Rates, and Outdoor Advertising Fees for verification.
“The Assembly urges all ratepayers to support this important exercise, as the funds collected will enable the AMA to continue delivering essential services such as sanitation, infrastructure development, and public safety for the benefit of all residents of Accra,” the statement read.
The AMA has issued a stern warning to all outstanding debtors, emphasizing that “no excuses will be accepted from defaulters or their agents.” To avoid penalties, those who will not be present at the time of collection are strongly advised to leave their payment receipts with their caretakers or representatives.
The operation will also crack down on unauthorised outdoor advertisements. The task force has been mandated to remove all illegal billboards, with the offending companies bearing the cost of removal.
“Companies found to have erected such billboards without the requisite permits will be surcharged with the cost of removal,” the Assembly stated.
Such revenue mobilisation exercises are a common feature of local government administration in Ghana, as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) strive to generate internally raised funds to complement central government grants.
