12 Suspects Arrested in Cybercrime, Human Trafficking Crackdown
The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service, has arrested 12 individuals allegedly involved in cybercrime and human trafficking during a coordinated operation earlier this week.
According to a police statement released on Saturday, March 14, the arrests followed a joint operation conducted on March 12, 2026, involving the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, the Surveillance Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the GIS.
Authorities revealed that six other Nigerian nationals suspected of migration-related offences remain at large.
The suspects are accused of engaging in organised cyber fraud and human trafficking schemes. During the operation, officers recovered 25 laptops and seven mobile phones believed to have been used in the alleged criminal activities.
The statement also reported that the suspects attempted to obstruct enforcement efforts by releasing German Shepherd dogs on officers. Reinforcements from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and CID Surveillance Unit were deployed, ensuring the operation was completed safely and successfully.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were involved in a variety of cyber offences, including internet fraud, identity theft, phishing scams, mobile money (MoMo) fraud, cyber extortion, blackmail, credit card and ATM fraud, and electronic forgery. Authorities further noted an emerging connection between cybercrime networks and transnational migration activities.
The police emphasised the importance of intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration in tackling organised crime.
“The Ghana Police Service is committed to intelligence-led operations, inter-agency coordination, and strict enforcement of the law to safeguard national security and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s digital and migration space,” the statement said.
