Otto Addo apologises to Ghanaians after AFCON qualification failure

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has publicly apologised to Ghanaians for the country’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
After Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Niger in their final Group F match on Monday, which sealed their exit from the qualification campaign, the coach expressed deep regret over the team’s disappointing performance.
During his post-match interview, Otto Addo acknowledged the pain and frustration felt by the nation, understanding the magnitude of the Black Stars’ absence from Morocco for the upcoming continental competition.
“I am ready to apologise. I am so sorry that we did not do well and qualify. I am sorry because I know how it feels and how Ghanaians are hurt. I am so sorry,” he said.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry that we didn’t do well and we didn’t qualify. I’m very sorry for this one, 100%. I really have to apologise because I know how much this means for every Ghanaian to play in this tournament. I know it,” he added.
Throughout the qualification series, Ghana struggled, failing to secure a win in any of their six matches. With just three points, the Black Stars finished bottom of Group F, marking a disastrous campaign for the team.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the Black Stars’ future and plan the next steps following the qualification setback.
