NDC unveils plan to boost Ghanaian culture through digital content and tourism initiatives

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled an ambitious plan to market Ghana’s rich cultural heritage globally, as outlined in their manifesto launched on August 24, 2024, in Winneba. The party’s proposals focus on harnessing digital content creators and enhancing tourism infrastructure to elevate Ghana’s cultural presence on the world stage.

Key components of the NDC’s plan include:

• Support for Digital Content Creators: The NDC promises to assist young digital content creators in producing materials that showcase Ghanaian culture. This initiative aims to promote the country’s rich heritage through modern digital platforms.
• Creative Arts Fund: A proposed Creative Arts Fund will offer financial support to both emerging and established creative enterprises. This fund is designed to provide business assistance to start-ups and struggling ventures, fostering growth and sustainability within Ghana’s creative sector.
• Cultural Villages: The manifesto introduces the concept of Cultural Villages—dedicated spaces for showcasing Ghanaian heritage. These villages will serve as hubs for local content creation, including films, music, fashion, and crafts, accessible to both local and international audiences.
• Tourism Infrastructure Enhancement: The NDC plans to refurbish and modernize key cultural heritage sites and develop new ones. This includes constructing new Centres of National Culture and enhancing existing ones to attract international tourists and stimulate domestic tourism.
• Digital Tourism Platforms: To complement physical tourism experiences, the NDC will introduce digital platforms offering real-time online databases and virtual reality tours of Ghana’s top tourist sites. This effort aims to broaden Ghana’s global tourism reach.
• Inclusive Cultural Participation: The policy includes measures to protect the financial stability of those in the cultural sector, such as a pension scheme for creatives. It also plans to enforce local content regulations, improve copyright and royalty management, and build recreational facilities for films and concerts.
• Accessibility and Integration: The NDC will prioritize the development of tourist facilities accessible to People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) and offer training to help them secure jobs in the sector. Additionally, the party aims to support the integration of the Ghanaian and African Diaspora into the cultural economy.
• Global Promotion: Collaborations with diplomatic missions will be pursued to enhance Ghana’s cultural and tourism presence abroad.
