GIPC CEO Calls on Ambassadors to Promote Investment

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has called on newly appointed ambassadors to transform Ghana’s foreign missions into active investment hubs that attract capital and create jobs across the country.

Speaking at the Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation for New Envoys in Accra, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Madjie urged diplomats to move beyond traditional representation and become “investment ambassadors” who actively promote Ghana’s economic potential.

“Ghana continues to enjoy a strong reputation as a stable democracy with a sound legal framework, macroeconomic resilience and an investor-friendly policy environment. These attributes make the country a highly competitive destination for foreign investment,” he stated.

Mr Madjie encouraged ambassadors to promote investment opportunities at both national and district levels, while supporting flagship government programmes aimed at inclusive growth.

He highlighted the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, which seeks to encourage round-the-clock production and expand Ghana’s export base.

Mr Madjie also mentioned The Big Push, a national infrastructure development initiative focused on modernising roads, rail networks and water systems.

He noted that by showcasing these programmes to potential investors, Ghana’s missions abroad can help accelerate industrialisation and diversify the economy.

Mr Madjie further called for stronger collaboration between the GIPC and the diplomatic corps to ensure investments are fairly distributed across the regions.

This, he said, would help reduce economic disparities and unlock growth opportunities for all Ghanaians.

“We need to make investment promotion an integral part of the work of Ghana’s missions abroad, thereby reinforcing the nation’s position as a secure and promising destination for global investors,” he emphasised.

Under Mr Madjie’s leadership, the GIPC is implementing reforms to make Ghana more attractive to global capital, focusing on stable governance, investor protection and policy incentives.

The Centre aims to position Ghana as a gateway to West Africa, leveraging its strategic location and growing middle class to attract multinational corporations and impact investors.

With Ghana seeking to boost foreign direct investment to support infrastructure, manufacturing and technology sectors, the GIPC believes ambassadors can play a pivotal role by connecting international investors with opportunities across all districts.

Mr Madjie stressed that by integrating investment promotion into diplomatic work, the nation can build a resilient, diversified economy that delivers broad-based growth and long-term prosperity.
