October Trading Records Strong Value Growth Despite Slower Volumes on GSE

Ghana’s equities market delivered a strong performance in October 2025, with trading activity reflecting a blend of caution and renewed optimism among investors. Although overall market volumes dipped slightly, the total value of transactions surged, underscoring a growing preference for high-quality stocks and a more discerning approach to capital deployment on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE).
Data from the month under review shows that the market closed with 44.12 million shares traded, amounting to GHS 217.21 million in total value. While this represented a marginal 4% decline in volume from September, the value of trades rose sharply by 14.75%. Analysts note that this shift highlights a strategic repositioning by investors toward fundamentally strong companies, even as broader market risks persist.
On an annual basis, market activity was even more impressive. Trading volume jumped by a substantial 334.84%, while market value climbed 87.39% compared to the same period in 2024. The performance reinforces the GSE’s rising visibility and the sustained interest of institutional players who increasingly view the market as a credible avenue for long-term returns.
Market indices also continued their upward trajectory. The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) advanced 2.66% to close at 8,385.35 points, extending its year-to-date gain to 71.53%. The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) recorded an even stronger rise of 10.39%, ending the month at 4,193.90 points and pushing its year-to-date appreciation to 76.16%. Market watchers attribute these gains to improved earnings guidance across select sectors, particularly financial services, manufacturing, and consumer goods.
October’s top-performing equities reflected renewed investor confidence in companies demonstrating resilience, innovation, or turnaround momentum. Clydestone Ghana PLC led the pack with an exceptional 64.71% return, followed closely by Societe Generale Ghana PLC at 63.94%, and Fan Milk PLC at 49.53%.
Additional notable performers included Cocoa Processing Company PLC, which gained 33.33%, Ecobank Ghana PLC with a 28.67% rise, and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, which advanced 20.66%. Collectively, the strong performance of these stocks contributed significantly to the month’s increased market value, reinforcing the view that investors are prioritising counters with clear growth prospects and solid corporate fundamentals.
With improved value indicators, robust index gains, and rising interest in selected equities, October’s trading dynamics suggest a market that is becoming more sophisticated and increasingly driven by fundamentals rather than speculative swings. Analysts expect this trend to carry into the final quarter of the year as investors position for year-end opportunities and corporate announcements.
