Otto Addo to further assess Black Stars squad during Kirin Cup and South Korea friendly

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has emphasised the importance of the upcoming friendly matches against Japan and South Korea, noting that he will use the games to evaluate players who have not yet had a chance with the national team.

The Black Stars will embark on a tour of Asia during the November international break. During the tour, Addo’s men will first face Japan on 14 November in Toyota during the prestigious Kirin Cup, before travelling to Seoul to take on South Korea on 17 November.

For coach Addo, these friendlies will form part of his assessment of players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“You know, we have a lot of good players at the moment, especially up front. It’s really, really difficult. And yeah, we have about eight months to observe, to look, to make the right decisions. We have some friendly games where I hope that many players can show themselves,” the Black Stars head coach said after Ghana defeated Comoros on Sunday to conclude the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

At a press conference, Addo admitted that having many top players to choose from gives him a headache.

He, however, is pleased that several Black Stars players are excelling at their respective clubs and hopes they continue to shine in the months leading up to the World Cup.

“This is a difficult part for me, but I think it’s the best situation for Ghana. Everybody’s hungry to go to the World Cup. Everybody’s playing their best. I hope the boys keep scoring, keep defending well, so that they make the decision difficult for me,” Addo added.
