Bawumia meets Black Stars players ahead of CAR Clash
The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the Black Stars on Monday ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR).
Dr. Bawumia, currently on a three-day tour in the Ashanti Region, took the opportunity to meet the players and technical team of the Black Stars to offer his encouragement.
Dr. Bawumia congratulated the players on their recent victory against Mali last Thursday and urged them to secure a win against CAR in today’s match.
The Black Stars arrived in Kumasi last Friday to prepare for the CAR match after their impressive performance in Bamako on matchday three of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars have accumulated six points from three matches, placing them joint top of Group I with Madagascar and Comoros. The Vice-President is expected to attend the game tonight at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Ghana hopes to return to the World Cup tournament for the fifth time, aiming for the 2026 event in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana first qualified for the World Cup in 2006, reaching the Round of 16.
They subsequently qualified for the 2010, 2014, and 2022 tournaments.
The Black Stars’ best performance was at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the quarterfinals.
However, they were eliminated in the group stages in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.
Vice President Bawumia, a soccer enthusiast, has been a consistent supporter of the Black Stars, mobilizing support for the team in the past.
