MTN Ghana Launches 2025 SME Awards

By Lois Amanor
MTN Ghana has officially launched the 2025 edition of the SME Ghana Awards, reaffirming its commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as key drivers of economic growth and innovation.
The awards, organised by SME GrowAfrica under the theme “Empowering SMEs to Scale Beyond Borders through Innovation, Resilience, and Digital Solutions,” will recognise outstanding businesses that are leveraging technology and innovation to compete in an increasingly global marketplace.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Margaret Ansei, described SMEs as the “unseen drivers” of Ghana’s economy, underscoring their critical role in job creation, innovation, and national development.
She noted that SMEs account for over 85 percent of businesses in Ghana, yet continue to face structural constraints including limited access to finance, digital capacity gaps, regulatory bottlenecks, and restricted market access.
“Ghanaian businesses are not short of potential; they simply need the right platforms and support systems to compete internationally,” she said, highlighting the importance of initiatives like the SME Ghana Awards in bridging that gap.
Mrs. Ansei commended SME GrowAfrica for its consistency since 2013, noting that the awards scheme has evolved beyond recognition into a broader ecosystem that equips entrepreneurs with knowledge, networks, and growth opportunities.
She further described this year’s theme as timely, referencing recent efforts to position Ghanaian SMEs on the global stage, particularly through international engagements aimed at expanding export opportunities.
The awards will spotlight businesses demonstrating resilience, digital transformation, and innovation, qualities increasingly required for survival and growth in today’s competitive environment.
Mrs. Ansei also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, including government, financial institutions, development partners, and corporate entities, to support SME growth.
She specifically praised MTN Ghana for its continued leadership, noting that corporate investment in SMEs helps build confidence in the private sector and signals readiness for global competitiveness.
“Platforms like SMEGA do more than recognise success; they create visibility, inspire confidence, and affirm excellence,” she stated.
The Ghana Enterprises Agency, she added, remains committed to strengthening the SME ecosystem through capacity building, access to resources, and strategic partnerships.
As preparations begin for SMEGA 2025, stakeholders say the initiative represents more than an awards scheme, it is a call to action to unlock the full potential of Ghanaian entrepreneurs and position them as competitive players on the global stage.
