Telecel to train Ghanaians under One Million Coders Initiative

Telecel Group has announced a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in support of the Ghanaian government’s digital transformation agenda, offering free access to its multilingual coding education platform, Startocode, under the One Million Coders Program (OMCP).

The initiative, launched in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, is expected to empower thousands of young Ghanaians—especially those in underserved areas—with critical digital skills to meet the demands of the 21st-century economy.

The OMCP, introduced by President John Dramani Mahama in April 2025, aims to train one million Ghanaians in digital literacy and coding. Telecel’s support will enable a significant number of participants to benefit from Startocode, a globally recognized platform known for its accessible, self-paced learning model and mentorship approach.

“We commend President Mahama for his visionary leadership,” said Moh Damush, Group CEO of Telecel Group. “By providing Startocode free of charge to many Ghanaians who enroll in OMCP, we are proud to support this national effort to empower the youth with vital digital skills that will transform lives and strengthen Ghana’s economy.”

The platform will be integrated into the national programme to provide flexible, multilingual digital learning, especially targeting remote and rural communities. Students will gain not only foundational coding skills but also practical exposure through hands-on projects and mentorship.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation described the partnership as a “pivotal moment” in Ghana’s efforts to bridge the digital divide.

“This is not just about teaching code—it’s about unlocking potential and creating sustainable pathways for our youth,” the Minister said. “Telecel’s involvement reflects the kind of private-sector collaboration needed to build a resilient, future-ready digital economy.” A joint signing ceremony between the Ministry and Telecel is expected to take place soon to formally launch the initiative.
