Kwesi Nyantakyi insists Black Stars problems not normal

Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has waded into Black Stars’ poor performances.
The senior national team has churned out shocking performances. In the last three international tournaments, Ghana has recorded a win out of nine games.
At the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the four-time African champions exited at the group phase with no for the first time. In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars recorded a win and exited at the group phase having finished at the bottom of their group.
In Ivory Coast during the 2023 AFCON, Ghana again suffered a group phase elimination without a win.
The woes of the Black Stars were compounded after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament scheduled to be hosted in Morocco.
After six games, Ghana recorded three draws and three defeats without a win which means the team will not participate in the tournament for the first time in two decades.
Reflecting on the poor performances of the Black Stars, Nyantakyi, who previously served as a FIFA Executive Council member believes the sharp decline of the team is not normal.
“Black Stars challenges are not normal,” he told Kumasi-based Lawson FM.
“Maybe when I was in charge, I was doing things differently. If you look at the coaches who coached the Black Stars, it is not the same as today,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will hope to put up an improved performance when they take on Chad and Madagascar in March 2025 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
