MoH Appeals to Medical Laboratory Professionals to Call Off Strike

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has appealed to the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union (MELPWU) to reconsider their planned industrial action set to commence on June 17, 2024.
In a press release signed by Public Relations Officer Isaac Offei Baah, the Ministry urged the union to exercise patience while negotiations are expedited to address their demands.
The Government’s Negotiation Team, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, is actively working to finalize the proposed conditions of service for MELPWU members.
MELPWU had announced on June 7 that its members would initiate a strike to push the government to finalize, approve, and implement their proposed conditions of service.
The Union’s demands include uniform, special project, unsociable hours, and communication allowances, which are still under negotiation.
The Ministry highlighted that extensive engagements with MELPWU have taken place since 2023, led by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
While most of the items proposed by MELPWU have been agreed upon, a few allowances are still being negotiated.
In the press release, the MoH assured MELPWU of its utmost cooperation and respect for the union’s dedication to the welfare of its members, emphasizing the importance of resolving the issues amicably for the benefit of all parties involved.
The Ministry hopes that MELPWU will reconsider their strike plans and continue working with the government to reach a satisfactory resolution.
