Eastern Regional Minister Urges Assembly Staff to Boost Local Revenue

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has charged staff of Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region to remain steadfast in upholding the fundamental principles of public service, stressing that integrity and professionalism are critical to effective governance.

Speaking during a working tour of selected assemblies, Madam Awatey underscored the need for public servants to demonstrate impartiality, accountability and transparency in the discharge of their duties. She noted that public confidence in local government institutions depends largely on how fairly and responsibly officials carry out their mandates.

According to her, fairness and ethical conduct must not be optional but should form the foundation of all administrative processes, decision-making and service delivery. She reminded staff that as frontline representatives of government, their actions directly influence citizens’ perception of the state and its commitment to development.

The Minister commended workers across the assemblies for their dedication and resilience, acknowledging their role in implementing government policies and programmes at the grassroots level. She encouraged them to sustain high performance standards and continue delivering services efficiently despite operational challenges.

Revenue mobilisation featured prominently in her discussions with officials. Madam Awatey urged assembly staff to intensify efforts to generate internal funds, explaining that improved revenue collection would strengthen the financial capacity of local authorities to execute priority development projects. She stressed that innovative and proactive strategies in revenue generation are essential to reducing overreliance on central government transfers.

As part of her tour, the Minister inspected ongoing infrastructure and community-based projects to assess their progress and ensure timely completion. She also engaged residents and traditional authorities, providing a platform for them to share concerns and suggestions.

Madam Awatey reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive governance, assuring communities that their feedback would inform decision-making and contribute to responsive and people-centred development across the Eastern Region.
