WAEC shuts down Adventist Day SHS exam centre

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has shut down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi.

WAEC shut down the examination centre after multiple mobile phones were found in the possession of candidates during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed the closure at a press briefing on Friday, 5th September 2025.

He said the decision was necessary to protect the integrity of the examination amid growing concerns over widespread malpractice.

Candidates affected by the shutdown have been relocated to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi, where they will continue their papers under stricter supervision.

At least 14 individuals, including students, teachers and invigilators, have been arrested nationwide in connection with various forms of misconduct.

WAEC has assured the public that results from all compromised centres will be thoroughly scrutinised before release, reinforcing its commitment to fairness and transparency.
