Rashford on Target as Barcelona Move Closer to La Liga Title
Marcus Rashford was on the scoresheet as FC Barcelona strengthened their grip on a second consecutive La Liga title with a convincing victory over Getafe CF.
The on-loan Manchester United forward finished a swift counterattack in the second half, as manager Hansi Flick’s side capitalised on Real Madrid’s surprise draw on Friday night.
Barcelona now sit 11 points clear at the top of the table, with both sides having five matches remaining, as they edge closer to securing a 29th league title.
Fermín López had earlier given the hosts the lead on the stroke of halftime, finishing from close range after being set up by an incisive pass from Pedri.
The Catalan side were without teenage star Lamine Yamal, whose season has been cut short by a hamstring injury sustained in the midweek win over Celta Vigo. Rashford began the match on the bench but was introduced on the hour mark in place of Roony Bardghji.
Getafe, still pushing for a European spot, committed players forward in search of an equaliser after the break but were left exposed at the back.
Rashford made them pay, scoring his seventh La Liga goal after latching onto a well-weighted pass from Robert Lewandowski.
The England international showed composure, racing through from his own half before calmly finishing past goalkeeper David Soria to seal the win.
